Gold Frame Decor: Secret Formula for the Perfect Painted Finish

It only took 5 minutes out of my day to make them and they actually do have that nice harvesty feel like I was looking for in a store-bought wreath.. Draping a garland and a banner over this old window frame hanging here really had a nice effect for about a 45 second investment of my time!.

I love what I came up with, mostly because it only takes about an hour to make and it looks so stylish and tidy leaning up against my wall there..So here’s how it started:.

I did all this a few weeks ago, so Halloween stuff was still up.And there was a random piece of metal that made its way downstairs from the nursery reno going on upstairs. These things happen.

I found this piece of scrap MDF in the garage, so I decided to use that.I’ve seen similarly sized pieces for about $5 at the hardware store.

They may have even been bigger, so you could probably even get two calendars out of one piece.. Kennedy and I painted it up with some old gray paint that I found in the basement, then we stamped some letters on it.

It didn’t work out so well..This patch that I’m showing you now took about 5 days because it was a little bit cooler and more overcast during that time.

It still worked, but it took some time.Of course it also works better on certain weeds compared to others.

You really do need a few different tricks up your sleeve to kill all your different weeds, but luckily I’ve got some of those in store for you soon.Salting only takes 20 seconds though, so it’s worth a shot if you’ve got a walkway that looks like mine.. Where we live, the climate is quite humid, so the salt really clumped up and stuck exactly where I put it, but if it’s dryer where you are, you may want to sprinkle the ground with some water first so the salt doesn’t blow away.. Something else you should know: This salt trick is a little controversial in the organic gardening world according to my reading.
